Tom Petty has shared a message to UK fans
Tom Petty has shared a message to UK fans about their ‘excitement and honour’ of returning to the UK to headline Barclaycard British Summer Time in Hyde Park next summer. Check it out in the video above.
Celebrating their 40th anniversary and marking only their second UK visit in 18 years, Petty & The Heartbreakers will be joined by a stellar line-up of support – featuring Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks and The Lumineers.
“Well, we’re coming over to England again,” he said. “Nothing gets us more excited than that. We’re so in love with that country. Musically, you can’t really be a rock n’ roll fan and not realise the debt you owe it.
“From the time The Beatles came in 1964, thousands of American bands were formed just off that one single night when they were on the Ed Sullivan Show. You could hear guitars everywhere. It’s especially nice and important to us because England was the first place that accepted us, which is now 40 years since we came there in ’77. You can’t ever duplicate that thrill of the first time where you hear your record on the radio or you get in the charts and everything starts moving at a really incredible speed.”
